Q1. What is "Cheque" / Check?

A.
Cheque / Check is a bill of exchange drawn on a specified banker and not expressed to be payable otherwise than on demand and it includes the electronic image of a truncated cheque and a cheque in the electronic form.



Q2. What is the Time Period of Presentation of Cheque / Check to banks for encashment?

A.
Six (6) English Calendar Months from the date mentioned on the Cheque. Example – Suppose a post dated cheque bearing the date of 25.03.2009 is issued on 05.01.2009, then the period of six months would be counted from 25.03.2009 and not from 05.01.2009.



Q3. How many times I can represent the Cheque / Check for encashment in the Bank within the period of Six English Calendar Months?

A.
Any number of times till the money is not encashed or Legal Notice of Demand is not issued to the drawer.
